Webb Chevy Shares Sneak Peek of Chevrolet Super Bowl XLVI Advertisement

“Chevy Happy Grad” advertisement to air during Super Bowl XLVI

Oak Lawn, IL 1/13/12 – “Chevy Happy Grad,” an ad submitted by 26-year old Long Island resident Zach Borst, will be aired during the telecast of Super Bowl XLVI, beating out submissions by independent filmmakers from around the world as part of Chevrolet’s Route 66 Super Bowl ad contest.

Chicago Area customers can view the ad that already has more than 32 million total online views at Chevrolet’s You Tube channel.

“We asked filmmakers to depict life’s journey and how
Chevrolet is there along the way,” said General Motors Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick. “When I saw Zach’s spot, I had to laugh, because the situation is something many families can related to – expectation and reality. ‘Happy Grad’ clearly shows the passion that Chevrolet elicits.”

Borst’s audience on Super Bowl Sunday is expected to exceed 110 million television viewers. “Chevy Happy Grad” was filmed on location near his home on Long Island during a weather window that offered Zach, his cast and crew only four hours to complete the project.

My Dad was a cop and worked real hard to be able to buy his kids their first cars. They were used, but mine meant the world to me,” Borst said. “Then I wondered what it would look like if I got a brand new Camaro? I mean, after all, who wouldn’t want a
Camaro as a graduation gift?”

Borst, an aspiring filmmaker, has been producing films since his childhood and founded his own production company, Goat Farm Films, based in New York.

During Chevrolet’s Route 66 Super Bowl ad contest, filmmakers from 32 countries submitted 400 scripts and 198 films for consideration. “Chevy Happy Grad” and other ads from the contest can be viewed at
Chevrolet’s You Tube channel.

Even Tires Can Be Fuel Efficient!

Advanced Tire Saves Big Bucks for Chicago Area Chevy Cruze Drivers
Ultra-efficient tires help deliver hybrid-like fuel economy

-Oak Lawn, IL 1/26/12 With gas prices near $4 a gallon, drivers are looking to boost the fuel economy of their car. Chicago Area consumers need to look no further than the Chevrolet Cruze Eco compact car, available at Webb Chevy.

The tire development engineers at General Motors worked with tire manufacturers to produce an industry benchmark tire that boosts fuel efficiency by three miles per gallon on the Chevy Cruze Eco. That’s about 38 extra miles on a tank of fuel and a savings of about $112 per year for the average driver.

Our Chevy Cruze customers are continuously impressed by the technologies on the Cruze Eco that help to improve fuel economy without sacrificing safety or performance,” said Jackie Webb of Webb Chevy . “The tires available on the Cruze Eco are unlike anything on the competition and use high-tech polymers that create a high-MPG set of tires.”

So what makes the tire unique? Typically, improving one facet of tire performance like rolling resistance requires sacrifices in other areas like traction in snow and stopping distance. Not so with the leading-edge Cruze Eco tires.

The tires represent one of many fuel-saving technologies that help the Cruze Eco average 42 miles per gallon on the highway. With a starting suggested price of $19,995, Cruze Eco offers hybrid-like fuel economy without the premium price tag. Other innovations that make the Cruze an MPG standout include an air shutter system that morphs the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle to optimize fuel efficiency and energy-efficient rack-mounted electric power steering.

Quality Comes First With Chevy!!!

With Chevrolet Traverse, Quality Never Takes a Back SeatRobotic tests mimic customer use to enhance seat quality, comfort and durability for Chicago Area divers

Oak Lawn, IL 1/15/12– Vehicle seats do more than just cradle an occupant. A seat is also a makeshift knee rest, a stepladder, a desk, a tray and sometimes, a bed. Most of all, it should address the occasional mayhem of life with comfort, style and sturdiness.
The seats in the Chevrolet Traverse have been stomped on, crushed, and pressed thousands of times to ensure they stand up to the rigorous demands placed on them.
Long before the Traverse went on sale at Webb Chevy General Motors engineers put the seats of the eight-passenger crossover through an intense series of tests to ensure high quality, maximum comfort and long-term durability.
The GM engineering team used state-of-the-art robotic technology to test the comfort and integrity of the seat cushions, as well as the seat frames and their attachments to the vehicle body. The robots simulated a variety of body types entering, sitting and exiting the vehicle. Programmed to mimic the range of motion of actual customers, the robots are sort of a cyber derriere. Front seats underwent up to 50,000 entry-and-exit test cycles representing more than 10 years of typical customer use.
Rear seats are subjected to testing regiments as well, including the Seat Adjuster Easy Entry Durability Test. GM engineers designed the industry first Smart Slide® second-row seat so that a 7-year-old child could safely unlock and move the seat out of the way.
“Engineers behind the Chevy Traverse have succeeded at maintaining the mechanism of the seat while allowing passengers to easily access the third-row seats,” said Jackie Webb, of Webb Chevy “This is especially important for families with younger passengers, who appreciate the Traverse’s flexibility in all situations.”
Traverse customers in Chicago frequently kneel on seats to retrieve packages, groceries and children from other parts of the vehicle.  To ensure seats hold up to heavy knee use, the team used a knee-form plunger that simulates a human knee pushing down and applying force on different parts of the seat cushions. This helped engineers assess the long-term integrity of the seat cushion foam, fabric, suspension system and seat warmers. Engineers subjected the cushions to well over a decade’s worth of knee load exposure – a total of 30,000 robotic test cycles.
“Chevy has gone the extra mile with the Traverse to deliver seats that satisfy our customers,” said Webb, “We are excited to offer such a diverse vehicle to local families and drivers.”

About Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell Phones for Soldiers was created by Brittany & Robbie Bergquist of Norwell Mass.  After reading a story about a soldier who ran up a huge phone bill calling home from Iraq, these two teenagers decided to help out.  They started by opening an account with $21.00 of their own money.  They are collecting cash donations and old cell phones.  The cell phones are recycled for cash and the proceeds are used to buy prepaid calling cards for our soldiers serving in the Middle East.  Cell Phones for Soldiers is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Their efforts have motivated people and businesses around the country to donate to this worthy cause.  Their goal is to provide every U.S. soldier with a way to call home for free.  For more information, please visit www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.

History Of The Famous Chevy Bowtie!

History with a Mystery: The Chevrolet Bowtie

Webb Chevy Celebrates 100 years of Chevrolet

Oak Lawn, IL 12/23/2011Recognized today by Chicago area and global consumers, the Chevrolet bowtie logo was introduced by company co-founder William C. Durant in late 1913. But how it came to be synonymous with the brand is open to wide interpretation.

As Webb Chevy kicks-off their Chevy Centennial celebration, the dealership wants to give Chicago area consumers a little history behind the Chevy bowtie.

Durant’s version of how the logo came into existence is well known. The long-accepted story, confirmed by Durant himself, was that it was inspired by the wallpaper design in a Parisian hotel. According to The Chevrolet Story of 1961, an official company publication issued in celebration of Chevrolet's 50th anniversary,

“It originated in Durant's imagination when, as a world traveler in 1908, he saw the pattern marching off into infinity as a design on wallpaper in a French hotel. He tore off a piece of the wallpaper and kept it to show friends, with the thought that it would make a good nameplate for a car.”

However, conflicting accounts have emerged, each of which is plausible enough to deepen the mystery and suggest it may never be solved. Two of the alternate origins come from within the Durant family itself.

In 1929, Durant's daughter, Margery, published a book entitled, My Father. In it, she told how Durant sometimes doodled nameplate designs on pieces of paper at the dinner table. “I think it was between the soup and the fried chicken one night that he sketched out the design that is used on the Chevrolet car to this day,” she wrote.

More than half a century later, another Bowtie origin was recounted in a 1986 issue of Chevrolet Pro Management Magazine based on a 13-year-old interview with Durant's widow, Catherine. She recalled how she and her husband were on holiday in Hot Springs, Va., in 1912. While reading a newspaper in their hotel room, Durant spotted a design and exclaimed “I think this would be a very good emblem for the Chevrolet.” Unfortunately, at the time, Mrs. Durant didn't clarify what the motif was or how it was used.

That nugget of information inspired Ken Kaufmann, historian and editor of The Chevrolet Review, to search out its validity. In a Nov. 12, 1911 edition of The Constitution newspaper, published in Atlanta, an advertisement appeared from by the Southern Compressed Coal Company for “Coalettes,” a refined fuel product for fires. The Coalettes logo, as published in the ad, had a slanted bowtie form, very similar to the shape that would soon become the Chevrolet icon. Did Durant and his wife see the same ad – or one similar – the following year a few states to the north? The date of the paper was just nine days after the incorporation of the Chevrolet Motor Co.

One other explanation attributes the design to a stylized version of the cross of the Swiss flag. Louis Chevrolet was born In Switzerland at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton of Neuchâtel, to French parents, on Christmas Day 1878.

Whichever origin is true, within a few years, the bowtie would emerge as the definitive Chevrolet logo. An October 2, 1913 edition of The Washington Post seems, so far, to be the earliest known example of the symbol being used to advertise the brand. “Look for this nameplate” the ad proclaims above the emblem. Customers in Chicago have been doing so ever since.

“Shoppers come into our showroom looking for quality, reliability and affordability,” said Jackie Webb of Webb Chevy. “The Chevrolet bowtie stands for just that, and we’re proud to offer Chevrolet vehicles.”

Many variations in coloring and detail of the Chevrolet bowtie have come and gone over the decades since its introduction in late 1913, but the essential shape has never changed. In 2004, Chevrolet began to phase in the gold bowtie that today serves as the brand identity for all of its cars and trucks marketed globally. The move reinforced the strength of what was already one of the most-recognized automotive emblems in the world. More than 4.25 million Chevrolets were sold in more than 120 countries and regions during 2010.
